Ancient Ways Island Survival and Bushcraft Training –  Hawaiian Island Adventure.

Come experience Hawaii like never before during one of the most unique island survival training and bushcraft adventures found anywhere in the world. Leaving the high-tech, modern world behind, you’ll explore coastal & mountain trails as well as other breathtaking island wild places. While doing so, students will also learn the ancient ways of island living with both traditional island and modern outdoor gear.

Camping Style & Equipment: As the purpose of these adventures is to foster development of outdoor safety, nature connection, island survival skills, and an intimate connection with your natural surroundings, there is a decided emphasis on using renewable, natural resources to meet basic living needs. Tents, backpacks and many other “required” pieces of outdoor equipment are often replaced with their low-tech counterparts: a tarp, a bedroll, etc. This allows students to get some real dirt time living the “know more, carry less” philosophy and exploring how traditional cultures lived comfortably without all the modern gadgets. If desired, students can also be given the opportunity to take their experience to the next level, going from low gear situation to no gear lifestyle for a truly unique island adventure experience.

Meals: Meal-time will be an adventure all its own as students learn to cook gourmet in a low-tech open fire or no-fire environment. Try your hand at traditional island cooking methods like imu earthen ovens and bamboo steamers. Meals are healthy, well balanced, delicious, and cooked from scratch using the finest ingredients. Campers with dietary restrictions can usually be accommodated if you advise us in advance.

Skills Covered: Traditional living skills covered during trips often include skills like tradiontal friction-fire fire methods & tool construction, island ecology & outdoor travel techniques, campsite selection, “leave no trace” ethics, trail hygiene, shelter location and construction techniques, water location and purification, nature observation skills, basic edibles & medicinal plants.

Age: Because of the physical aspect of our adventure courses, we recommend that students be at least 8 years of age. All students under 18 must be accompanied by a Parent or Legal Guardian also participating in the course.

Itinerary:

Custom itinerary details provided upon request.

Equipment & Meals: All necessary adventure equipment will be provided. We’ll also give you a packing list for what to wear and additional items you may wish to bring on your own.

Physical Requirements: Physical requirements will be discussed on the nature of the course desired. For multi-day or overnight adventures, all students must also carry general travel health and medical evacuation insurance (generally available for under $60).

Additional Information: When you register for your trip you will receive an information packet that covers all the major details of planning for this trip (i.e. – How to get here, pre and/or post-trip nearby lodging recommendations, packing lists, etc.) If you have any additional questions, please email us at info@casurvival.com.

Pricing: In order to better serve our customers, we have switched to an “on-demand” model for our adventure trips (which allows us to leave when you want to). As such, pricing for your trip will be based on the minimum base fee we can charge to run the trip for your group size.
