5 Day Ancient Ways Primitive Hawaiian Island Adventure.
Come experience the Oahu’s North Shore like never before during one of the most unique primitive survival training adventures found anywhere in the world. Leaving the high-tech, modern world behind, you’ll explore coastal & mountain trails as well as breathtaking island outlooks, waterfalls, and beachscapes. While doing so, students will also learn the ancient ways of island living with little more than a knife, a water container, and a blanket. (Those that wish to will have a chance to leave even these modern tools behind!).
Camping Style & Equipment: As the purpose of this 5 day adventure course is to foster development of primitive skills and an intimate connection with your natural surroundings, there is a decided emphasis on using renewable, natural resources to meet basic living needs. Tents, backpacks and many other “required” pieces of outdoor equipment are replaced with their low-tech counterparts: a tarp, a bedroll, etc. This allows students to get some real dirt time living the “know more, carry less” philosophy and exploring how traditional cultures lived comfortably without all the modern gadgets (which are not allowed on our courses). If desired, students will also be given the opportunity to take their experience to the next level, going from low gear situation to no gear lifestyle for a truly primitive experience.
Meals: Meal-time will be an adventure all its own as students learn to cook gourmet in a low-tech open fire environment. Try your hand at traditional island cooking methods like imu earthen ovens and bamboo steamers. Meals are healthy, well balanced, delicious, and cooked from scratch using the finest ingredients. Campers with dietary restrictions can usually be accommodated if you advise us in advance.
Skills Covered: Traditional living skills covered during the 5 day trip will include primitive fire & tool construction, island ecology & travel, campsite selection, “leave no trace” ethics, trail hygiene, shelter location and construction techniques, water location and purification, nature observation skills, basic edibles & medicinal plants.
Age: Because of the physical aspect of our adventure courses, we recommend that students be at least 8 years of age. All students under 18 must be accompanied by a Parent or Legal Guardian.

Once on-site, students will have an introductory orientation and begin working on meeting their survival living needs in their new primitive village space. There will also be time for exploring local jungle trails and swimming at our secluded beach!
(Days 2-4): So much to do! We’ll work on primitive skills throughout our stay and explore some of the nearby wonders of Oahu’s North Shore. Student’s will have a chance to learn traditional island living skills of fire starting, shelter, cooking, and more.
